Gardening: More major garden pests – Going underground

Bugs, bugs and more bugs! In our short growing season, it pays to stay on top of things. This week it’s all about root maggots.
The root maggot (Delia spp.) can be a devastating vegetable pest.  Four common species in this genus are the cabbage root maggot (Delia radicum), turnip maggot (D. floralis), onion maggot (D. antigua) and seedcorn maggot (D. platura). The species are similar in appearance (grey and smaller than the common housefly) with similar behaviours. The species have ov
