Devices caught fire in 2014: More smart meters coming to Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan’s power company is expanding the use of smart meters despite a failed attempt three years ago to use the electricity gauges.
SaskPower was forced to remove 105,000 meters in 2014 due to more than half a dozen unexplained fires.
The Crown corporation says 584 meters were tested in a pilot project and they all worked except one.
SaskPower says malfunctions are to be expected in a small number of the electronic trackers.
