Daniel Forest sentenced to nine years in hatchet attack during drug deal gone wrong

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to manslaughter in connection with Saskatoon’s first homicide of 2017.
Daniel Ivan Joseph Forest admitted in May that he caused the death of 45-year-old Rodney Wailing on Jan. 11, 2017. Forest was initially charged with second-degree murder after Wailing was found injured in a home in the 200 block of Avenue I South. He later died in hospital from his injuries.
