Cuthand: Sixties Scoop victims to be compensated

This week Canadians were introduced to a new term. After facing court action and a decision in favour of the plaintiffs in Ontario, the Federal Government has decided to compensate victims of the Sixties Scoop.
“What is the Sixties Scoop?” many Canadians asked. It’s a common term in Indian Country, but for the uninitiated it is the action taken by social workers to “scoop” children from their homes and place them with white foster families or adoptive families.
