Council opts to give Saskatoon taxpayers a break on 2018 bill

Saskatoon residents will get their lowest property tax increase in nearly a decade this year.
For what is believed to be the first time, council voted unanimously on Monday to use revenue restored in this month’s provincial budget to reduce the tax hike.
The extra $1.99 million the city will receive as a surcharge from SaskEnergy, a provincial Crown corporation, will be used to lower the 2018 property tax increase to 3.79 per cent from 4.7 per cent.
