Column: StarPhoenix rooted in history, ready for the future
On Oct. 16, 1902, the founders of what would eventually become the Saskatoon StarPhoenix churned out a thousand newspapers on a simple hand press.
Last night, on the 115th anniversary of that first production day, an efficient German-made press spit out almost 30 times as many. An audience of thousands and thousands more consumed the stories, photography and ads on their mobile phones, tablets and computers.
