Charles Avery Dunning championed farmers' causes
Although he was born in England, Charles Avery Dunning had deep roots in Saskatchewan agriculture and drew on them as he became a national political figure.
Dunning moved to Canada in 1902 at 16, first becoming a labourer near Yorkton, then homesteading near Beaverton. He got involved in public service through his work advocating on behalf of farmers. He was instrumental in the creation of first the Saskatchewan Co-operative Elevator Company and eventually the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.
