An amusement tax is unlikely in 2018
Saskatoon moviegoers likely won’t have to pay an amusement tax on film tickets next year.
Earlier this month, the City of Saskatoon proposed reinstating a controversial amusement tax as a way to bring in more revenue and stave off a significant property tax increase.
Such a tax — which applies to admission to theatres and other event venues — existed in the city from the 1920s until the nine-per-cent ticket markup was scrapped in 2007.
