Academics explore cross cultural criminal justice system
The traditional Cree legal response to a man killing the child of another person would be for the killer to give his own child to the family that lost theirs, law professor Marilyn Poitras told people at a circle discussion at the University of Saskatchewan.
That tradition teaches that the killing of Colten Boushie is about much more than a young man and a shooter, she said. It’s about restoring relationships between the families of the shooter and the deceased, and their communities.
