Western University's Northern Tornadoes Project deploys all-female crews for first time

The Northern Tornadoes Project has marked an important milestone during its 2026 season.Western University's Canadian Severe Storms Laboratory Director Gregory Kopp said the discovery wasn't observed right away."We realized only in retrospect that we had sent out all female damage survey crews for four tornadoes," said Kopp. "We've been doing damage surveys for a long time and Northern Tornadoes Project was set up in 2017, but we realized 'oh, it's the first time we've just sent out al
