Young: Fix the discrimination in the Indian Act now

The burnish is off Justin Trudeau’s sunny ways, professions of feminism and commitment to a new day for Indigenous peoples. But if Trudeau cares to restore some of his integrity around these issues, there is one clear route forward. Taking this path is long overdue, has been urged by Canadian courts, and, now, by a United Nations committee of human rights experts. Canada must fix the 150-year-old status registration discrimination against Indigenous women enshrined in the federal Indian Ac
