Will road safety programs be funded by fines?

The next city council will face a decision on how to fund future road safety programs, possibly relying on fine revenue rather than property taxes.
Rob Wilkinson, co-ordinator of the Safer Roads Ottawa program, said councillors have asked staff to look at a self-funding model to deliver the road safety program. Other than property taxes, the only source of revenue for such a program would likely be traffic fines, which are currently part of city hall’s general revenue.
