'Unknown number' of animals perish in SPCA fire in Aylmer

Volunteers carried the bodies of dogs shrouded in tarps Tuesday from the pile of rubble that is all that remains of the SPCA shelter in Aylmer. The building was destroyed by fire Monday night, killing an unknown number of animals.
Gatineau firefighters braved intense flames to rescue a dozen dogs before the building collapsed.
“To see it like this is just heartbreaking,” said Vanessa Weaver, a shelter employee who was among those who arrived to look at the wreckage and mourn the
