Traditions merge in powerful new composition

IQALUIT — Two passionate Northern Canadian artists — Dene songstress Leela Gilday and Inuit throat singer Sylvia Cloutier — took centre stage in Iqaluit this week with the world premiere of a powerful piece they co-wrote that was commissioned by the National Arts Centre.Accompanied by seven of the orchestra musicians who travelled to the fly-in Nunavut capital as part of NACO’s Canada 150 tour, there was a sense of disparate worlds coming together as Gilday’s contem
