The return of The Philosopher Kings: Funky-pop band plays Mavericks on Thursday

In the 90s, The Philosopher Kings defied the odds. The Toronto-based band challenged listeners with a soulful combination of jazz, funk and pop at a time when everyone else was into grunge.
It worked, in Canada at least, and they put out three albums in the 90s, plus another one in 2006, before the band members began pursuing their side projects. Two of them formed the pop duo Prozzak, while singer Gerald Eaton turned into soulman and recording artist Jarvis Church, and found success producing o
