Temporary hospital bed funding in Ottawa only partially covers bed cost

There was less than met the eye to the Ontario government’s announcement this week of 2,000 new hospital beds to combat overcrowding during flu season.
Not only are the beds temporary, but the funding provided is less than the full cost of a bed in most cases. A number of the beds will not be located in hospitals at all.
The Ottawa Hospital, which has chronically been at more than 100 per cent capacity in recent years, will get 45 new beds as soon as mid-November, according to the province
