Tanker runs aground in St. Lawrence at Morrisburg
A 145-metre tanker ship ran aground early Tuesday morning on the St. Lawrence Seaway, but there was no spill and traffic continued on the busy shipping channel.
The Prescott Anchor was the first to report that the Chem Norma, an oil/chemical tanker flagged by the Marshall Islands and bound for Sarnia, was grounded west of Morrisburg Beach, about 80 kilometres south of Ottawa.
A spokesman for the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. said the ship ran aground at 4:05 a.m. due to steering problems
