Sypniewski: Why trans people aren't going to remain invisible

It’s human nature to believe that if you don’t see something, it doesn’t exist. When that something finally appears, it’s regarded as new and strange. Many appear to have that opinion of transgendered people.
However, the idea that we have suddenly come out of nowhere – while perhaps understandable – is wrong.
I was one of the founding members of Ottawa’s Gender Mosaic. When we started in 1988, we had many calls from trans people who needed to talk, but
