Support worker who struck elderly Ottawa resident sentenced to 90 days

A personal support worker who struck elderly long-term care resident Georges Karam repeatedly in the face has been sentenced to 90 days in jail, a sentence he can serve two days a week between work shifts.
“Mr. Karam is one of our most vulnerable members of our community,” said Justice Julie Bourgeois. “He was not in a position to defend himself and not even to express denunciation of the situation. Vulnerable individuals must be protected.”
