Is there anything easier for a jazz critic to slag than a solo CD from a singer-pianist? A glance at the album’s tunes might reveal overly familiar choices and a preponderance of ballads. A quick listen often reveals lyricism in abundance, easy accessibility and even reverence for jazz tradition. What more does it take is provoke a hip opinion-maker’s snark and disdain?
