Son charged with second-degree murder after elderly woman found dead in Sandy Hill

An elderly woman is dead and her son is charged with second-degree murder after police responded to a “disturbance” on Range Road in Sandy Hill early Friday morning — the city’s 11th homicide of 2017.
Police confirmed Friday afternoon the death was a homicide after spending most of the day describing it as “suspicious.”
They were summoned to an apartment building at 85 Range Rd., at the intersection of Templeton Street, after a call to police around 5:30 a.m.
