SIU rules OPP not responsible for Bancroft man's 2016 death
Ontario’s police watchdog has ruled there are no grounds for criminal charges against Ontario Provincial Police officers connected to a case in which a 26-year-old man shot himself inside a residence in Bancroft, about 200 kilometres west of Ottawa.
On April 25, 2016, the OPP executed a search warrant at the home in an attempt to catch a man wanted in connection with an earlier incident.
When officers entered the residence they found the man dead of self-inflicted gunshots.
