Severe thunderstorm watch issued for capital region

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the capital region.
Environment Canada says the storms may develop near noon or early this afternoon and rapidly intensify.
“Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” the agency said in an alert.
