Rideau Canal reopens to skaters Saturday morning

These plunging temperatures have a silver lining.
The entire 7.8 km length of the Rideau Canal Skateway reopens Saturday morning at 8 a.m., just in time for the second weekend of Winterlude and the Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival – the world’s largest.
The canal closed temporarily Feb. 4 to ensure mild temperatures wouldn’t erode the ice surface.
There’s little danger of that for the foreseeable future, with daily highs averaging about -8 C.
