Red-light camera revenue should go directly to road safety programs, mayor says

Fine revenue generated by Ottawa’s red-light cameras should go directly to police and the city’s road safety program, Mayor Jim Watson said Wednesday in his annual state of the city speech.
“I will propose that the next council allocate 100 per cent of this revenue to the police service and Safer Roads Ottawa for further enforcement and to strengthen road safety initiatives,” Watson said in his speech, which was at the beginning of the first council meeting of 2018.
