Province has no plans to allow trained civilians take over traffic control from cops
The province isn’t eager to let non-police direct traffic during festivals, parades and construction detours, despite calls from Mayor Jim Watson and other councillors to let less expensive, trained civilians handle the road work.
Allowing civilians to direct traffic would require changes to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, but Bob Nichols, spokesman for the Ministry of Transportation, said there are no plans to change the law.
