Ottawa to permit murals in residential areas, Watson promises
Ottawa should encourage murals in residential neighbourhoods, Mayor Jim Watson said Wednesday, after city council retroactively approved one in Hintonburg that a bylaw officer had ordered painted over.
The artwork on a house at Stirling Avenue and Armstrong Street depicts a bulldog with flowers and a view of the sun behind clouds through an ornate window. It was illegal under a bylaw that almost completely forbids murals on private homes.
