Ottawa hospital officials keeping close eye on rising superbug rates

Five years after it stopped screening patients for the superbug VRE (vancomycin-resistant enterococci), The Ottawa Hospital says it is paying close attention to rising infection rates among patients and might resume screening high-risk patients.
“We have seen an increased number of cases in the last year or so and we have noted that and have been looking at that very carefully,” said Dr. Alan Forster, vice president of quality, performance and population health at The Ottawa Hospital
