Ottawa curator's cross-Canada billboard project celebrates Indigenous women's 'Resilience'
In Mary Anne Barkhouse’s arresting photograph, a wolf pack’s matriarch strides forward, serenely belying the superimposed bible verse declaring man’s dominion over every living thing that moves upon the earth.
It’s emblematic of Resilience, an exhibit that, beginning June 1, brings works of contemporary art by 50 Indigenous women not to a hushed gallery but to 167 digital billboards from coast to coast. Three are in Ottawa.
