More than $700 million spent on failed road building project in Afghanistan

The Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) – a U.S. government watchdog agency – recently released a review of the construction of a 233-kilometer segment of Afghanistan’s Ring Road between Qeysar and Laman. The Ring Road was seen as key to helping Afghanistan develop. Since 2006, the project for construction of this portion of the Ring Road has been funded by five separate grants from the Asian Development Bank totaling $721 million
