Mayberry: Let's shed a little light on coping with blindness

I am a 68-year-old female, diagnosed as legally blind 15 years ago. I had been losing my vision long before that, but didn’t honestly notice – until people and objects started carelessly bumping into me, and cars began suddenly and rather dangerously leaping into my path as if from nowhere.
