Maniwaki courthouse may return to having just one special constable, union fears
QUEBEC CITY — The president of the union representing Quebec’s 325 special constables, whose job is to protect the lives and property of everyone at the province’s courthouses, said Tuesday nothing he has heard from government witnesses has convinced him the decision to add a second constable at the Maniwaki courthouse will be permanent.
Last week an 18-year-old man was shot during an altercation with the lone special constable on duty at the Maniwaki courthouse.
