Lots of snow could spell spring flooding, Rideau Valley officials warn

After an “old-fashioned winter with lots of snow” totalling more than 250 cm — and no real thaws — be ready for the risk of heavy spring flooding, stewards of the Rideau River watershed warn.
“Current conditions at several (Rideau Valley Conservation Authority) snow course sites are indicating near-record water content amounts in the snow for this time of year, generally not seen since the late 1970s,” the authority said in a release Wednesday.
