Intoxication sex-assault ruling will affect tiny number of cases, law prof says
A new ruling that a person can use extreme drunkenness as a defence on a sexual assault charge will not open the door to everyone who thinks one can get drunk and commit assault, argues an Ottawa law professor.
Blair Crew, who teaches law at the University of Ottawa, says lawyers are sharply split in their views of the new Ontario Superior Court ruling.
But he also said the ruling will affect only a tiny number of cases.
