Inquests called into Ottawa jail hangings

How the province treats inmates who are suicidal or dealing with serious mental illness will be under scrutiny at upcoming coroner’s inquests into three hanging deaths at the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre.
Inquests were announced Wednesday into the deaths of Justin St. Amour, 31, who died Dec. 8, 2016, and Cleve Gordon Geddes, 30, who died Feb. 10, 2017. Both men suffered from schizophrenia and died in hospital after hanging themselves in their cells at the Innes Road jail.
