HouseWorks: Shocking suggestion by contractor

Q What should I make of a solar energy contractor who wants to install photovoltaic panels facing east and west on my house? My plan is to have 10 kW of electric power from the sun. The output of all the panels being suggested equals 10 kW on paper, but not all fit on my south-facing roof. Is the contractor right in wanting to mount six panels on the east and west sides?
