Here's the best way to build a new central library

After decades of delay in committing to a worthy new central library, followed by an extended sharp debate over location, the city and its federal government partner have been surprisingly quick off the mark to impose their design selection process.
But instead of producing the “iconic” architecture so often promoted, will the result of this rather opaque process be instead an “ironic” new central library and archives?
