“Healthy tourism, stronger cities”: so goes the latest social media ploy by Airbnb showcasing an Ottawa resident in front of his home in the affluent Glebe neighbourhood. His basement apartment is a short-term rental, income he says is used to pay for his four-year-old autistic son’s therapy. “Without that revenue that we can earn from Airbnb,” he states in the advertisement, “our children would not be getting the health care that they need, and they deserve.&
