Flames contained to garage, balcony in east-end blazes

Firefighters quickly extinguished separate fires that broke out nearly simultaneously in the east end Thursday morning.
A passerby, uncertain if anyone was home, called in the first at 9:33 a.m. after spotting flames coming from a garage of a rowhouse at 1510 Mimosa Ave. near Alta Vista Drive and Industrial Avenue. Firefighters confined the flames to the garage and confirmed that they hadn’t spread.
