Egan: Scammers scare restaurants with threats to cut off power

One day in late November, Donna Chevrier arrived at her Vanier restaurant, Ola Cocina, to find a server ready to hand her the telephone.
“It’s hydro.”
Chevrier said the caller identified himself as a hydro “technician” on his way over to cut off the power because there was an unpaid bill of $5,000. He offered her a 1-800 number to call for information on making a payment and avoid being left in the dark.
