Editorial: Lessons from the tornadoes

The tornadoes eight days ago blew away a lot of assumptions. For instance, the assumption that we are insulated from large-scale disasters. Between the 1994 Aylmer tornado, the 1998 ice storm, the 2017 floods and the Sept. 21 twisters, we have learned that we are not.
Another assumption was demolished too, however: that we live in an age of social isolation in which we lack empathy for others. Numerous acts of heroism, compassion and generosity this past week reminded us that disasters can also
