Denley: Ottawa Council should not be subsidizing private business
Ottawa city councillors gave up nearly $11.7 million in future revenues Wednesday to encourage developments ranging from a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Bells Corners to a three-tower condo megaproject on the edge of LeBreton Flats.
In each case, the premise is that the project is so worthy and beneficial to the greater good that it justifies financial assistance from city taxpayers. The implication is that the projects simply wouldn’t go ahead without some local government largesse
