Denley: A smaller Ottawa council might actually serve us all better

How many municipal politicians does a city need? A week ago in Toronto, the number was 47. Now, Premier Doug Ford says 25 are enough and he’s going to pass legislation to make that a reality.
People running for city council are understandably outraged. Some have spent months campaigning for seats that will no longer exist. Incumbents’ jobs will disappear as the size of council shrinks. One can certainly argue that the timing is not ideal, since the election is in October.
