City of Ottawa crunches numbers on minimum wage plan

The City of Ottawa is researching how a plan to boost the provincial minimum wage would affect its compensation expenses.
The city says there are 158 employees who currently earn the minimum wage rate of $11.40 an hour. The number includes summer positions.
Premier Kathleen Wynne on Tuesday announced that her government wants to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2019. Under the phased plan, the wage would first increase to $14 an hour on Jan. 1, 2018.
