Capital jobless rate climbs to 4.9 per cent in December
Unemployment in the capital region climbed to 4.9 per cent in December, from 4.6 per cent in November, reflecting a drop of 1,100 jobs while the labour force grew 1,600.
It was the ninth straight month that the jobless level has remained below five per cent.
Some detail on the December jobs report in the capital: Education was the big gainer from November, with 4,800 new jobs, while the transport-warehousing and health sectors saw net losses of 2,400 and 2,300 respectively.
