Canada considering taking part in expanded training mission for Iraqi forces
In 2003, shortly after the U.S. invaded Iraq, the American government formally disbanded the Iraqi military.
In June 2003 the U.S. began training a new Iraqi military.
Billions of dollars and 15 years later the results have been less than stellar. Iraq’s military has had mixed success over the years. When the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant went on the offensive in 2014, the Iraqi military couldn’t retreat fast enough.
