Butler: Teaching is thankless? No, it is the greatest reward

Stephen Leacock, in the preface to his classic work "Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town," described the teaching profession as “the most dreary, the most thankless, and the worst paid profession in the world.” He taught at Upper Canada College from 1891-1899, until he “gave up school teaching in disgust,” and eventually went on to become the chair of the department of economics and political science at McGill University.
