Blood samples from Ontario newborns studied at CHEO to help babies worldwide

Blood samples taken from Ontario newborns and analyzed at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario are helping improve the health of tiny babies in developing countries around the world.
A research program, funded with a $1-million grant from the Gates Foundation, will help identify the gestational age of newborns in low-resource countries, which will allow for public health measures to prevent pre-term births, considered an urgent international health challenge.
