Basement in flames on Forward Avenue

Multiple 911 calls reporting “heavy black smoke” sent Ottawa firefighters to a basement blaze in Mechanicsville.
Crews arriving at the basement floor of 124 Forward Ave. on Sunday had the fire under control at 1:14 p.m. No injuries were reported.
A fire investigator is set to determine the cause.
“The Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army will both be assisting those affected by this incident,” the fire department said in a news release.ALSO IN THE NEWS:
