Antiques: Tranquil night painting by Schofield is a treasure

Q:  This beautiful, peaceful scene is a painting by John William Schofield (1865-1944). It belonged to my British grandmother, who received it from the Hart Collection in the 1950s.
It was brought to Canada from England in 1982.   The painting measures 51 x 61 cm (20 x 24 inches) and is dated 1931.  The framing label reads ‘Wm Whiteley Ltd. Fine Art Dept. Queens Road, W2.’
